Prof. Yan, an academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, is a Chair-Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on renewable energy, advanced energy systems, climate change mitigation, and related environmental policies. With over 400 publications in prestigious journals like Science, Nature Energy, and Nature Climate Change, and holding more than 10 patents, Prof. Yan has supervised nearly 200 post-docs and 50 PhD students. Over the past decade, he has secured over 20 million Euros in research funding as a Principal Investigator, including leading the Future Energy Profile platform funded with 10 million Euros from the Swedish Knowledge Foundation and industry partners.


Having obtained his PhD from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in 1991, Prof. Yan has held Chair-Professor and departmental leadership positions at institutions like Luleå University of Technology, Mälardalen University, and KTH in Sweden. He is the founding editor-in-chief of Advances in Applied Energy, Nexus, and serves as an Advisory Editor-in-Chief for Applied Energy. Prof. Yan is recognized with numerous awards, including the Global Human Settlements Award for Green Technology (2014) supported by UNDP, IAGE Lifetime Achievement Award etc. and has been distinguished as a Highly Cited Researcher by WoS/ISI.
