What is the Career and Leadership Fund (CLF)?

The Career and Leadership Fund (CLF) provides financial support to help CityU students enhance their leadership skills and employability.


What kind of projects are eligible?

Projects or initiatives that aim at raising awareness of career planning among students; equipping students with necessary attributes, skills & knowledge to foster their leadership & upward mobility; and enhancing students’ employability & career achievements. Preference will be given to projects that encourage or involve cross-disciplinary and/or cross-cultural collaboration. Examples of potential CLF projects include, but not limited to

  • Business orientation programmes;
  • Career planning workshops and work shadowing programmes;
  • Career preparation workshops or activities on CV writing, interviewing and written test skills;
  • Entrepreneurship initiatives;
  • Leadership development initiatives such as image building workshops, public speaking forums /business competitions, workshops and forums for presentation skills, organisation and leadership skills;
  • Projects for improving upward social mobility of CityU students.

Who can benefit from the funding?

Funding is restricted to support UGC-funded students enrolled in any undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes.


Who can apply?

CityU departments, academic or administrative; or student societies may apply. Applications from individual students will not be accepted. For student societies, a full-time CityU staff (“Staff in charge” or “SIC”) must be identified to oversee the whole project. Information of the SIC must be included in the application.

Application must be approved by the respective Head of Department / School / Division before submission.


How to apply?

The project proposal has to be prepared in the format as specified in the application form (Download Template). The proposal must include a dissemination plan addressing outcomes of the event through, for example, project/event webpages or social media.

Completed application form, duly endorsed by Head of Department / School / Division, in soft copy (both word and pdf formats) and supporting documents (e.g. CV of trainers, quotations) should be submitted to Career and Leadership Centre via email CLFund@cityu.edu.hk by the application deadline.  Incomplete or late application will not be processed.

Assessment Criteria

All project proposals will be evaluated by an Assessment Panel chaired by Associate Provost (Student Life) or her nominee based on the following criteria:

  • Alignment of project activities with the aims and objectives of the CLF;
  • Improvement to the image of CityU students;
  • Level of cross-disciplinary and/or cross-cultural collaboration;
  • Quality and feasibility of project design, pre-activity orientation programmes, outcome assessment and outcome dissemination;
  • Stimulation to students’ career development and leadership skills incorporating social responsibility and linkages with industries /employers;
  • Students’ involvement in organising the project.


Project outcome dissemination and Reporting

Successful applicants are required to submit a report and a financial statement (Download Template), in English, within TWO months upon completion of the project.


Management of Approved Funding

Based on the decision of the Assessment Panel, the approved funding will be downloaded to the account of the department to which the applicant / SIC (in case the applicant is a student society) belongs.  The applicants or SICs (in case the applicants are student societies) are required to monitor the use of funding in accordance with the specifications listed in the applications and in compliance with the University’s financial policies and procedures. The approved funding must be expended according to the budget plan as written on the application form (Note).  

Subsequent change in the budget will require strong justifications and prior approval of the Chair of the Assessment Panel (“Panel Chair”).  Any unspent balance of the project has to be returned to the Career and Leadership Fund at the end of the financial year 30 June 2024 or at the end of the project completion, whichever is earlier.

 

Note:
If an activity/ event of a project will be held in July or August 2024, a separate budget for the aforesaid event should be prepared.  The relevant budget, if approved, will be downloaded to the account of the department to which the applicant / SIC (in case the applicant is a student society) belongs for the financial year 2024-2025.
