Prof. Xu is dedicated to develop novel engineering solutions for addressing the unmet in the field of medicine. Specifically, he focuses on the application of nanotechnology to medicine (or nanomedicine), which has potentials for shifting paradigms in medicine encompassing diagnosis, imaging, surgery, and drug administration. In the past 10 years, the key innovations stemming from the laboratory include microneedle-based skin patch and nucleic acid-based nanoparticles (molecular beacon, Spherical Nucleic Acids and DNA origami) for the delivery of sensors and therapeutics. He has published more than 100 scientific articles with >10,000 citation and H-index of 41 (by Dec 8th 2019). He also filed 10 patent applications and edited two books.
