Dr Steve Chuang, the founder and CEO of ProVista Group, embodies the spirit of innovation and resilience that defines successful entrepreneurship. Since establishing his company in the 1990s, Dr Chuang has been at the forefront of a new wave of industrialisation in Hong Kong, driven by his unwavering belief that success is rooted in daring to experiment and learn. His entrepreneurial philosophy revolves around two core principles: "daring to try" and "continuous innovation." These principles not only guide his business endeavours but also inspire his commitment to mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs, ensuring that the legacy of innovative industrial practices continues.

Dr Chuang's impressive achievements, his leadership extends beyond his company, as he currently serves as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Industries for the term 2023-2025. Under his stewardship, ProVista Group has prioritised research and development, leading to the creation of high-quality products that have garnered multiple accolades, including the Hong Kong Business Awards for "Consumer Product Design" and the Silver Award in the "Hang Seng Pearl River Delta Environmental Award." Through these accomplishments, Dr Chuang has come to recognise that innovation is the cornerstone of business success, fueling his determination to lead advancements in technology and new industries.

Living in an era defined by rapid technological transformation, Dr Chuang emphasises the importance of intelligent innovation in modern electronic products. "Living in a digital age, modern electronic products require intelligent transformation, which drives me to actively advance related technological research and development," he explains. His fascination with technology began in childhood when he would dismantle household appliances to understand their inner workings. This curiosity blossomed into a passion for electronic engineering during high school, where he pursued courses in electronics and radio. It was during this formative period that he realised the profound impact technology could have on people's lives, inspiring him to embark on a career in the field.

Dr Chuang's entrepreneurial journey took shape shortly after he began his career as an engineer. Recognising the need to deepen his professional knowledge, he pursued further studies in the UK. During an internship at a company specialising in automotive anti-theft products, he identified a significant problem: high rates of customer returns due to installation difficulties. This experience opened his eyes to the potential of entrepreneurship as a means to leverage technology in addressing market pain points and customer needs. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he launched a line of highly integrated anti-theft products that quickly gained traction, laying a solid foundation for his company's growth.

Despite his numerous successes and public service roles, Dr Chuang remains committed to lifelong learning. To enhance his understanding of the latest market trends and demands, he enrolled in the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) programme at CityUHK. This programme's blend of practical application and research depth has allowed him to engage in meaningful discussions with professors and peers from diverse backgrounds. "My experience in the DBA programme has not only strengthened my professional knowledge but also enabled me to view management and innovation from multiple perspectives," he notes.

As a visionary leader, Dr Chuang recognises that the future of industry relies on nurturing talent. He actively supports the new generation of entrepreneurs by promoting initiatives such as the "Hong Kong New Industrial Development Alliance," which he chairs, and the "CityUHK HK Tech 300." Additionally, he established the Provista Inno Park in Dongguan in 2023 to provide essential resources for aspiring entrepreneurs, facilitating their journeys and reducing unnecessary trial and error.

Acknowledging the complexities of Hong Kong's entrepreneurial landscape, Dr Chuang encourages young entrepreneurs to embrace failure as a learning opportunity. "The difference between success and failure lies in how one learns from mistakes," he asserts. His commitment to education and innovation is further exemplified by his role as the convener of the CityUHK Industrial and Business Leaders Circle, where he fosters collaboration between academia and industry, providing students with valuable opportunities to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.

Recently, Dr Chuang completed his term as Chairman of the Federation and has taken on the role of inaugural Chairman of the Hong Kong New Industrial Development Alliance. He also joined the CityUHK Council, contributing to the University's strategic planning and development. As Deputy Chairman of the Eminence Society, he aims to strengthen the connection between CityUHK and the industry, helping students adapt to future work environments while enhancing the university's competitiveness.

Dr Chuang's journey is a testament to the power of innovation, education, and mentorship in shaping the future of entrepreneurship. His commitment to continuous learning and his passion for nurturing the next generation of leaders ensure that the legacy of industrial excellence in Hong Kong will endure.
