The vision of the Research Partnership Development (RPD) team is to facilitate the advancement of a global and regional strategic collaborative platform for City University of Hong Kong to develop and engage in transformational research and technology which can result in the realization of new initiatives with high societal impact and benefits to society, and to raise the international standing of City University.
Through cultivating strong collaboration and creating synergies between City University, leading research organizations, government agencies, and industrial communities, RPD is with the mission to identify, align and cluster cross- and multi-disciplinary research strengths of the University in order to generate new knowledge thrusts as a key future growth engine for the university’s research development efforts.
The other key aspect of RPD is to enhance research intelligence and communication, identify global and regional technology and industrial roadmaps, and effectively facilitate the consolidation of research funding channels and processes. This can be accomplished by identifying global initiatives and emerging research frontiers that meet the needs of society, and developing strategic alliance and international partnership such as with North America, European Union, the Asia Pacific Rim and Greater China region in key areas of research development.
城大作为一个从事科研和技术变革的学校，致力于产生巨大社会影响和经济利益的创新工作。研发拓展室的目标是促进城大这个全球和区域战略合作平台的进步，提高城大的国际地位。通过构造有效的结合机制，充分发挥城大与学术带头科研机构、政府机构以及工业界的协同作用。研发拓展室的使命是鉴别，定位和组合城大的交叉学科的科研及发展优势，形成新的知识集群，以带动城大未来的研发工作。
研发拓展室的另一个工作重点是通过探寻与社会的需要紧密结合的全球新兴、前沿研究领域，开发与国际社会紧密衔接的重点科研课题的国际战略联盟和合作伙伴关系（如北美，欧洲联盟，亚洲太平洋地区及大中华区）等方式，加强科研信息交流，拓展科研经费的新管道以及洞悉全球和区域学术界和工业界的新动向。
