Course Aims

This course aims to introduce the students to the concepts and situations that increase their understanding of the role of the cinematographer. It provides them with the opportunity to understand and practice the craft of cinematography. We teach the students to communicate their ideas visually, using lighting, lenses and camera choices as an extension of storytelling. Lighting is the basis of cinematography. Students learn the nuances of controlling source and shadow to create the mood and feeling. And the heart of cinematography is composition: camera placement, camera angles, camera movement and lens choice.
