Course Aims | ||||||||||
• To encourage students to discover the functions of law in society, and its relationship be-tween morality and justice; • To guide students to developing a sound understanding and appreciation of the concept of the rule of law and its relevance in the context of Hong Kong; • To familiarise students with the sources, classification and operation of Hong Kong law and other features of the legal system in Hong Kong; • To introduce students to the legal and constitutional framework in which law is practised and administered in Hong Kong; • To introduce students to basic features of civil and criminal justice as well as how institu-tions and procedures were developed to further civil and criminal justice, how the notion of access of justice remains key to evaluating the effectiveness of the civil and criminal justice system and thus how legal aid plays a crucial role • To introduce students to the relationship between HKSAR and the PRC, and the interface between Hong Kong and Chinese Law; and • To encourage students to think critically about Hong Kong law and institutions and to communicate their views and their analysis effectively both orally and in writing. | ||||||||||
