Course Aims

A smart home has long been the dream of many people. With the recent development of mobile and advanced technologies such as information technology, nanotechnology and biotechnology, people come up with different innovative ideas to change the way of living and improve the quality of life. The course will introduce a creative approach to smart living and inspire students to explore smart ways to use technology at home. Throughout the course, students will learn the basic knowledge of a smart home. Examples will be discussed to illustrate the basic concepts and technologies involved in smart home. Various applications and features of smart home will be described, including home appliance control, health monitoring, energy saving, security, etc. To facilitate students’ learning, home appliances control using smart phones and tablets will be demonstrated.

This course aims to provide an overview on current development of smart home. Smart home is a typical example to provide green and healthy living environment. The course is designed to help students understand how people improve the quality of living by applying different smart devices at home. At the end of the course, students will learn and understand the basic concept of different smart systems at home, including entertainment, lighting control, communications, security (protection, health and safety) and integrated home appliances control using smart phones and tablets, computer and Internet. Besides, teamwork and communication are important part of the course. Students would have the chance to work as a team to discuss some practical examples.
