Course Aims

This course aims to introduce students to fundamental concepts and theoretical approaches to studying literature. The course will provide an overview of the main genres of literature, including fiction, poetry and drama. It will focus on the characteristics of literary language through analysing various rhetorical techniques, structures and styles of exemplary texts.  In order to increase confidence in students for their responding to literature, different approaches to literary criticism will be explained and students will be encouraged to apply those approaches to literary texts. It finally hopes to develop students’ writing skills and awareness of literariness.
