Course Aims

The design project is a group project with 2 to 4 students who work towards a bioengineering design project under the supervision of academic staff. The project involves a substantial design task requiring the application of knowledge related, predominantly, to inter-disciplinary areas in engineering and life science. Typically, the students shall initially perform reverse bioengineering, brainstorming, and conceptual design to come up with a set of feasible alternatives. They select the ‘best’ alternative, divide the project into several stages, and identify the requirements for problem solving. They then proceed to perform detailed design and analysis, selection of components for their bio-systems, and the development of a working prototype. The project work also includes functional tests to evaluate the bio-system performance, preparation of project report and oral presentation.
