Course Aims

This course aims to introduce students to the nature and significance of poverty and of the complex relation between poverty, politics, and aid. It presents different conceptualizations and theorizations of poverty and investigates the empirics of poverty, politics, and aid in East Asia and other global settings. Through a focus on social hierarchies and inequality it provides students with the tools they need to conduct an independent analysis.
