Aims of Major

This major aims to educate and produce graduates who will:
  1. be equipped with practical knowledge in mechatronic engineering.
  2. be able to integrate the diverse disciplines of mechanical, electronic and computer engineering to design and build microprocessor controlled electromechanical systems (both, industrial and consumer systems/products).
  3. be able to evaluate mechatronic engineering problems quantitatively and analyse them critically.
  4. be able to communicate proficiently in a range of disciplines and skills.
  5. be able to take responsibility for their own personal and professional development.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Major (MILOs)

Upon successful completion of this Major, students should be able to:
  1. Assess the market needs and predict desirable features of new consumer products or automated machines and equipment,
  2. Calculate or analyse the required device-performance requirements,
  3. Develop a number of alternative conceptual prototypes from the available technology options,
  4. Compare and adopt the most promising of these concepts,
  5. Produce a detail design and actual prototype of the device, and then
  6. Plan and manage the device production.
To achieve this, graduates should be able to:

       7. Operate as effective members of design teams inclined to innovate and discover,
       8. Communicate/report technical results, and
       9. Rely on the knowledge of
           - mechanical and electronic system design,
           - utilization of microprocessors in control and motor and mechanism motion sub-systems,
           - product development techniques and
           - coordination of multi-disciplinary projects requiring trade-offs among the technology options
with respect to cost, schedule and risk.
    10. The graduates are also expected to recognize broader societal issues and identify themselves with        selected few of them, particularly emphasising prudent environmental practices of professional engineers.
