Course Aims

This course aims to introduce basic and comprehensive concepts and ideas in the discussion of Japanese Culture. A variety of cultural artefacts associated with Japanese culture will be analyzed and contextualized within a broader framework of historical development, cultural exchange, ideological implications and imaginative reinterpretations. Besides enhancing students’ knowledge about Japanese culture this course will also encourage them to critically reflect upon issues of culture, tradition and national identity in general.
