Course Aims

This course is designed to introduce basic concepts of modern Korean society, which shape strong national identities and unique characteristics of Korean people.  The major emphasis will be on identifying distinctive features and social trends of Korean society from a variety of topics of historical, economic, political and social nature including collectivism, globalisation, the democracy movement, etc. Upon completion, students will be able to compare and contrast some of the key aspects of Korean modernity with those of Hong Kong and China to gain a broader understanding of their own society within the East Asian context.
