To protect your discovery and innovation, you can apply the patent with your ownership either fully self-financed or application for Patent Application Grant provided by Innovation and Technology Commission. Alternatively, you get free financial and legal assistances and supports from CityU Knowledge Transfer Office.

CityU Knowledge Transfer Office
Knowledge Transfer Office at CityU assists staff and student to seek for patent protection for their inventions. This link provides University Policy on Intellectual Property as well as information of patent applications for both internal and external funding.

DEC Students’ Intellectual Property
You may make your own discovery and innovation during the course of your studies at CityU. This website tells you why and how to protect any intellectual property that you may have created at CityU. There is a handbook that helps you understand more about how to protect your IP. Telling us what you have discovered and innovated in a Disclosure Form for Student’s Discovery & Innovation.

Under the initiatives of Innovation Commons, the SLW will offer a short term course “The Intellectual Property Law: Awareness, Protection and Commercialization”.
All CityU undergraduate students are eligible to apply for the course. Upon the successful completion of the course, students will get a certificate.

Intellectual Property Department
Intellectual Property Department is an official licensing body providing information of intellectual property and the relevant IP Laws. Application for patents, trademarks and designs are available through this link.

Patent Application Grant
This Funding scheme assists local companies and individuals to apply for patents of their own inventions. The Grant is administered by the Innovation and Technology Commission with Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) as the implementation agent. Applications can be made throughout the year .
