Introduction
The University Grants Committee (UGC) supports the development of learning and teaching initiatives through the allocation of the Teaching Development Grant (TDG) amongst tertiary institutions. The UGC emphasises that the Grant should integrate and support institution-level initiatives and promote innovations to enhance the quality of teaching for the better provision of quality education to students.
Projects should produce outputs on demonstrated and direct learning and teaching benefits. Equally important are the projects’ emphasis in support of the incorporation of problem-based learning and research elements to equip students with the tools to find creative solutions to real-world problems.
The Grants Management Team of Talent and Education Development Office (TED), led by the TED Director, provides administrative support for Teaching Development Grant and related activities. The Team is responsible for:
- providing support for grants administration, policy formulation and strategic planning;
- providing administrative support services including funding allocation, expenditures and progress monitoring;
- developing and maintaining a central database for grants and related activities;
- acting as a focal point for project information dissemination and liaison with other support units;
- compiling reports to the UGC on the University's Teaching Development Grant; and
- providing secretarial support to the TDG Approval Panel.
