CityU takes up Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium (HKSCC) convenorship in 2015

Professor Linda Li, Associate Provost (Strategic Planning), chairs the HKSCC in 2015 on behalf of the University. HKSCC was set up in 2010 by the Heads of Universities Committee (HUCOM) to share best practices on sustainability among the local publicly-funded universities and to implement the Hong Kong Declaration The convenorship is taken up on rotation among all the member institutions on a yearly basis. Please put forward your ideas related to sustainability at any time to Professor Li for sharing and discussion in the HKSCC.

CityU Sustainability Committee – a University-level committee to advise on campus sustainability

CityU Sustainability Committee is a University-level committee to advise the President on the strategic direction of the campus’s sustainability agenda. The Committee is chaired by Professor Linda Li, Associate Provost (Strategic Planning), with members from administrative and academic units.

Follow-up from the CityU Sustainability Summit

CityU’s Sustainability Summit was held in October 2014. Videos, presentation slides and photos of the Summit are now posted online for sharing.
Post-Summit engagement work with the campus’s sustainability partners is ongoing.

Looking Ahead

Connect4Climate (C4C) Collaboration

 CityU has joined the World Bank-C4C network to work with over 200 institutions around the world
 to share knowledge, raise awareness and encourage action regarding climate change. Some possible
 collaborative initiatives are now under consideration with C4C:

  1. Climate Education Roundtable and Workshop
  2. Connect4Climate Case Study
  3. Greening the Silver Screen
  4. City Solutions Challenge Competition

Sustainability Literacy Test – A global initiative from the United Nations

CityU joined the first global pilot run of the Sustainability Literacy Test in 2014, together with over 260 universities around the world. The second pilot run for the Hong Kong region is expected to be held in early 2015. The test consists of 50 questions capturing both international and local dimensions. Students can test their knowledge of sustainability. Results of the first pilot are here.

Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) 2014

CSF is a CityU funding scheme to support projects to promote sustainability. The deadline for the fourth call for proposals was 15 December 2014, and results will be announced soon.

Sustainability-related Seminars/Conferences

The 11th International Conference on Green and Energy-Efficient Building & New Technology and Product Expo will be held at China National Convention Center in Beijing on 24-25 March 2015. Online conference enrollment is available at before March 2015.

Student Activities on Sustainability

Environmental Protection Society (EPS) of Students’ Union won two O’Camp Awards organized by the Friends of the Earth in 2014:

  • Gold Award in Level 1 (be a Green O Camper);
  • Champion in Level 2 (Green! O Camp Competition) – A cash prize of HK$3,000 was awarded to EPS for organizing green activities. Congratulations to EPS members!
