On 26 February 2008, as well as the 2 SU representatives, 3 RA representatives representing the views of their residents attended the Student Residence Committee meeting to present their views and concerns. The meeting aroused heated debate about how to allocate the limited resources in a just and acceptable way. After different parties had shared their perspectives at the meeting, the ratio of ˇ§local residents with no hall experienceˇ¨ to ˇ§local returning residentsˇ¨ was set at 60:40 (as opposed to the originally proposed ratio of 70:30). Based on the projected figures for the next year, this means that we will be taking in 635 (27%) new local residents and 425 (18%) local returning residents in the halls.

Opinions and perspectives differ when resources are limited. But we should not limit our channels for different parties to share their views. Contact us if you are concerned about the hall allocation policies for next year.
