DISCOVER Places to INNOVATE with Ideas for Schoolwork
By WONG Lok Hang, Denis (Lee Shau Kee Hall)

Do you find CityU campus crowded? Have you ever experienced difficulties in finding a good place to study or do group projects? March and April have always been the busiest months in semester B. In the last issue of ResLink, Jack Liu gave readers some suggestions for where to date. In this issue, I will explore the CityU campus facilities which support your study.

Existing Facilities

1. Humanities Academy, Run Run Shaw Library

Located in the Library, the Humanities Academy is one of the places where quiet discussion is allowed. There are private rooms which students can book two days in advance. Each room is installed with a high-definition television and some students may use it as a computer screen for making a PowerPoint with group-mates.
Computer: No
Printer: Yes (within one minute’s walk)
Booking: Yes
Electrical sockets: Yes

2. Flow Centre, 7/F Amenities Building

This place is managed by the Student Development Services. If the SU does not have special events, the Flow Centre is open to all SU members for self-study purposes.
Computer: No
Printer: No
Booking: No
Electrical sockets: No

New Facilities

3. G600, AC2

G600 is located on G/F of Academic 2. It is a new computer room with two fast print release stations. Your Student ID card is required for entering the room and the entrance is right next to the security counter. If you take Lift 5 or 6, make a sharp left turn after you exit from the lift on G/F. You will see the entrance to G600.
Computer: Yes
Printer: Yes
Booking: No
Electrical sockets: Yes

4. Common Area, AC2

Tables and chairs are arranged in the common areas in Academic 2. Also, electrical sockets are installed. The advantage of having group meetings here is that many students find AC2 a bit far away, so you can find seats more easily. Also, the canteen in AC2 offers refreshments which can be energizers for you and your group-mates to work more efficiently.
Computer: No
Printer: Yes (in G600)
Booking: No
Electrical sockets: Yes

5. Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre

This is probably the best place for residents living in Cornwall Street Residence to work in. At present, only the Department of Media and Communication and School of Creative Media have moved into the building. There are a lot of seats where you and your buddies can work on group projects. Most important of all, there are two fast print release stations on the 4/F. You will never need to queue to release your print job there!
Computer: No
Printer: Yes (on 4/F)
Booking: No
Electrical sockets: Yes (but the sockets may not be very close to tables)
