Johnna WIENS (HSBC Prosperity Hall)

Happy New Year!  (And Happy New Semester, too!)  To all of our new residents, we extend a warm welcome.  To our returning friends, welcome back.

The beginning of both a new calendar year and a new semester consistently leaves two things weighing heavy on the minds of most of us: our New Year’s resolutions and how much we wish we could still be enjoying the freedoms of our recently departed semester break.  As you begin laying out your New Year’s resolutions, which for many of us will include something along the lines of “study harder” or “earn better marks”, remember that you must give your body and mind time to readjust out of vacation mode and back into school mode.

The key to having a fulfilling and enjoyable stay in the Student Residence is to continually work to better your interpersonal skills.  In this issue of ResLink, we delve into these issues, helping us take a deeper look at what it means to make friends and then maintain those friendships while living in the context of the Student Residence.  One student even shares his personal insight into solving conflict when it arises, but if that does not work for you, perhaps Hannamiina’s take on some respectable debating tacticswill!

While we are still at the beginning of the semester and our workload is relatively light for the time being, now is the time to check out the five winners of JCAC’s hall writing competition.  This month, we feature a travelling story of Crystal.  If that puts you in the mood to read even more, consider checking out your hall’s mini library, an initiative intended to enrich the minds of residents by making non-textbook reading materials easily accessible to residents.

From all of us at ResLink, we wish you a very successful and engaging semester.  Happy reading!
