Happy New Year! We want to extend a warm welcome to our new friends joining us at the Student Residence for the first time and say “welcome back” to old friends returning to our home away from home after the winter break. As we settle into this new semester, let us always remember to be responsible digital citizens of the student residence community to make this a safe and happy home for all.

The end of last semester saw many exciting activities at the student residence, including the popular Inter-hall Photo Competition. This semester is sure to bring a plethora of fun activities, celebrations and festivals as well. And with all of the wonderful Chinese New Year activities and celebrations drawing upon us, let us reflect on ways that we can be sustainable in the celebrations we organise in the halls, such as through consuming less or using reusable rather than disposable dishes and utensils.

If you’ve been awakened by the pounding of construction equipment recently and wonder what’s going on, it’s all part of the CityU Strategic Goals for Campus Planning and Development. Beginning with this issue of ResLink and continuing through the May issue, we will be featuring stories meant to keep you abreast with some of the major developments that are a part of the CityU 2010 – 2015 Strategic Plan. Also new to ResLink this semester is a monthly column exploring the joys of non-academic reading. Check back each month to learn more about the university’s Strategic Plan, as well as how you can incorporate reading for pleasure into your leisure time.

We wish you the best of luck for a productive and enjoyable semester!
