As a kid, I loved to collect coins in a piggy bank. I searched every nook and corner of my house to ensure that I hadn’t missed any place. I felt a sense of accomplishment while counting the coins I had thus ‘earned’. Despite being a university student, I still experience this joyous feeling when I save money! One of the best ways for all of us to enjoy this is by saving the money spent on using air conditioning in our bed-study room. Some useful tips to follow are:

Common Room to study: This is the place where people meet and socialize on every floor but during the examination period all of us can beat the heat by merely gathering and studying together under one Air Con rather than using the ones in our own rooms!

Close your curtains during the day to block the heat of the sun. You can have better protection by using removable sheets of cardboard, cutting them to the size of the window and covering them in foil. It takes effort but it is worth it! Close all windows throughout the day until it is cooler outside than it is inside. Open everything up again and cool off to be prepared for the next day.

Fans can give you a whiff of much needed air: Your room-mate and you can buy a fan and enjoy natural air. Breathe easy, we say! In the evening you must open the windows and use fans to have a cross-breeze, circulating cooler evening air through your room.

In addition to this, you can wear light clothes and shorts, eat a lot of cucumbers and drink gallons of water. However, you shouldn’t forget that money ‘saved’ by hard work can be relished - but not money gained by cheating, because it has guilt associated with it. Please do not try to tamper with your air conditioners or the meters.  So what if you don’t have a piggy bank? We ask you to work hard and cherish your ‘earnings’!
