General Principles |

Mix of gender: proportional to the gender mix of student population. |

|
A reasonable mix of local/non-local students is essential for providing educational opportunities for students staying in the Student Residence. The ratio for local to non-local students should be kept at least 50:50. The ratio will be reviewed periodically. |

Allocation Procedures/Processes |
|
|
For Non-local Students |
|
2.1 |
Priority will be given to: |
|
|
2.1.1 |
The first two years of Full-time Non-local students in UGC-funded Bachelor's Degree program, including Foundation Year Students; |
|
2.1.2 |
Full-time Incoming Bachelor's Degree Exchange Students (with established agreements on student exchange with the university) |
|
|
2.2 |
Applicants must submit their applications before the deadline specified by the Student Residence Office. There is no guarantee that bed spaces will be granted to late applicants. |
|
2.3 |
For Incoming Bachelor's Degree Exchange Students, the offer of bed space is subject to the availability. There is no guarantee that bed spaces will be granted to applicants. The period of stay will be confined to the exchange term as agreed by City University of Hong Kong and the home university. Incoming Bachelor's Degree exchange student who wish to apply for an extension of exchange study should submit hall application before the deadline specified by the Student Residence Office. There is no guarantee that bed spaces for etension of stay will be granted. |

2.4 |
For non-local students who have completed the first two years of study (returning non-local residents): |

2.4.1 |
The success of returning non-local residents' applications will depend on their previous achievement / contribution / performance made in residence life. |
|
2.4.2 |
All applications of returning non-local residents will be listed according to the ranking of the combined scores of "Leadership Qualities and Potential Contribution to Residence Life" (Score B) and presendted to respective Residence Masters for recommendation. |
|
2.4.3 |
Admission of returning non-local residents into the halls will be made upon Residence Masters' recommendations, which are based on the following considerations: |

the ranking of the combined scores of "Leadership Qualities and Potential Contribution to Residence Life" (Score B) |
|
2.4.3.2 |
inputs from respective Residents' Associations and Residence Tutors |

2.4.3.3 |
previous disciplinary records with the halls |

| Important Notes: |
| It is very important to complete both of the following procedures for hall application |
| Submit application via AIMS; |
| Then AIMS will prompt you to download the hall-specific application form of the hall that you are currently staying / you have previously stayed in the latest term. Please remember to submit the completed form to your Residence Master for recommendation via Residence Tutor of your floor or collection box placed at lift lobby of G/F of the hall. |

For Local Students |
|
2.5 |
Bed spaces will be reserved for: |
|
|
2.5.1 |
Students admitted through the "Student Athletes Admission and Residence Scholarship Scheme" upon receipt of the application before the deadline specified by the Student Residence Office. There is no guarantee that bed spaces will be granted to late applicants. |
|
2.5.2 |
Students with special needs which are defined as daily commuting time longer than 4 hours; disability that impairs movement or significantly impaired learning; very undesirable home environment, such as squatters and temporary housing; and students with extenuating circumstances or special conditions supported by SDS counselors. |
|
|
2.6 |
Application will be invited from eligible UG students in March/April (current students) and in August (for newly admitted and Senior Intake Students) via the web. The ratio for local students with no hall experience to local returning residents is 60:40. |

|
2.6.1 |
Students with no hall experience. |
|
|
2.6.1.1 |
If the demand is greater than the total number of bed spaces, the allocation of bed spaces will be based on the Scoring System. Lot drawing will be used for applicants who have the same scores above the threshold. |

2.6.1.2 |
70% of available bed spaces for local students with no hall experience are need-based, based on the ranking of the combined scores of "Home Environment and Commuting Time" (Score A) |
|
2.6.1.3 |
30% of available bed spaces for local students with no hall experience are merit-based, based on the ranking of the combined scores of "Leadership Qualities and Potential Contribution to Residence Life" (Score B) |

2.6.2 |
Students with hall experience (Returning local residents) |
|
|
2.6.2.1 |
The success of returning residents' applications will depend on their previous achievement / contribution / performance made in residence life. |

2.6.2.2 |

Definition of Hall Experience "With no hall experience" is defined as staying in the hall less than 120 days cumulatively with reference to the residence record on AIMS during student's entire study period excluding the summer residence. |

2.6.4 |
If places are available for inviting applications for Semester B of the academic year, priority will be given to Final Year Students who have never stayed in the Student Residence. |
