The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) offers research studies leading to the degrees of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in all energy- or environment-related subjects listed under the section, Research and Development in the website of the School.
Before making an application, candidates are requested to contact one of the faculty members in SEE in the relevant subject discipline to discuss their proposed research topic within that discipline. A one-page research proposal is also required to be submitted together with the application for admission. The name of the proposed supervisor should be specified in the application. Students admitted in 2018-2019 are required to pay a tuition fee of HK$3,508 per month (12 months for a year). Established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD programmes in Hong Kong. Those who are seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in the School of Energy and Environment of City University of Hong Kong, irrespective of their country of origin and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities and societal responsibility.
The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (~US$2,564) and conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (~US$1,300) per year for the awardees for a maximum period of three years.
