Dr. Xuan Wang received his B.Eng. (Environmental Engineering) in 2009 from Nankai University and M.Sc. (Environmental Science) in 2012 from Tsinghua University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2017. Prior to joining CityU, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University.
Dr. Wang’s research focuses on understanding the chemical composition of the atmosphere and their impact on air quality and climate change. The group uses global and regional models (e.g. GEOS-Chem) with observations (from all scales: ground, drone, aircraft, satellite, etc.) to study the complex interactions between atmospheric chemistry, meteorology, human activities, biogenic processes, air pollution and climate. Current topics of interest includes:
There are several openings for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Prospective Students interested in studying atmospheric chemistry and earth system modeling are welcomed to contact Dr. Xuan Wang. Candidates for graduate student should have a Bachelor's degree with solid math background. Atmospheric science is interdisciplinary so there is no specific degree requirement for admission. Chemistry background and programming skill are good asset in our group, but those can be learnt on the job during the graduate study. Applicants will have to go through a centralized admission process through the City University of Hong Kong. The next intake of graduate student will be for the academic year starting from September 2020.
Postdoc candidates should have a Ph.D degree in Atmospheric Science, Earth Science, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Effective written and oral communication skills in English are also necessary. Experience in atmospheric/climate modeling, and/or analysis of in situ/satellite observations is highly preferred. Successful candidates will conduct research in brown carbon aerosols or Asia air pollution chemistry.
To apply, please contact Dr. Xuan Wang at firstname.lastname@example.org with your CV and research statement. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled. Successful applicants will receive competitive salary and benefits. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Enquiries are encouraged, please email Dr. Xuan Wang for more information.
City University of Hong Kong is an equal opportunity employer and we are committed to the principle of diversity. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates, especially applicants who will enhance the diversity of our staff.
