Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) Entrance Scholarships

 

Regulations

 

To attract applicants with excellent academic background to join the full-time UGC-funded programmes related to building construction and surveying, the Hong Kong Construction Association Limited has kindly provided a number of entrance scholarships for the Department of Building & Construction and the Division of Building Science & Technology in the 2011-2012 academic year under the following regulations:

 

1.      The Scholarships shall be known as “Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) Entrance Scholarships”.

 

2.      Eligible candidates for the Scholarships shall be full-time undergraduate freshmen who have been admitted to the UGC-funded undergraduate programmes offered by the Department of Building & Construction and the Division of Building Science & Technology through the JUPAS route or non-JUPAS route.

 

3.      There shall be 40 awards in total, distributed as:

(i)               ten for Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Building Engineering (Construction Engineering and Management);

(ii)             five for Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Building Engineering (Structural and Geotechnical Engineering);

(iii)           five for Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Surveying;

(iv)            twelve for Associate of Science in Construction Engineering and Management;

(v)              four for Associate of Science in Architectural Studies and

(vi)            four for Associate of Science in Surveying.

 

4.      The value of each award shall be HK$12,000 for Bachelor degree programmes and HK$8,000 for Associate degree programmes.

 

5.      Selection of candidates for the Scholarships shall be made by the respective Department/Division.  For the bachelor degree programmes, candidates will be assessed based on their entry qualifications such as outstanding public exam results or academic merit attained in their Higher Diploma/Associate Degree study.  For the Associate Degree programmes, candidates will be assessed based on their entry qualifications such as outstanding public exam results or academic merit attained in their previous study.  Their outstanding academic results in the first Semester of study may also be considered.  For students studying Associate of Science in Surveying who choose Quantity Surveying as their specialism in the second Semester would also be considered based on outstanding academic results in their first Semester of study.

 

6.      Candidates may need to attend and pass the interview conducted by the selection panel of the respective Department/Division.

 

7.      Nominations from the Department of Building & Construction and Division of Building Science & Technology shall reach the Student Development Services by the end of January 2012 and the awards shall be made as soon as possible.

 

Remark:

With an objective to nurture our students and to promote caring culture, the Community Relations Committee of the University Council has recommended that each award recipient is expected to make an annual donation of at least HK$200 to City University of Hong Kong for student support via CityU Alumni Club when they are in employment after graduation.  This term has been incorporated into all scholarship/prize/award/bursary schemes, whether they are donated by external donors or contributed by University funding, with effect from February 2008.
