Acting / Directing |

This specialization will introduce students to the language and practice of filmmaking. Through hands-on practice, demonstration and exercises, students will learn acting and directing methods to produce a final short digital film. The class prepares students to make their final digital film project for screening. Upon completion, students can handle characters, synopsis, step scripts, full script and develop individual directing method.

This specialization teaches the language of editing and know-how of organizing visual and sound effects with film materials. The film is shot in digital format and edited on AVID/ Final Cut Pro . While students will learn how to use the non-linear editing software, the emphasis is on the craft of editing and the assembling process using film language to create assembling sequences that best serve the story.

Cinematography |

This is a hands-on camera class in which students learn fundamental skills and the art of cinematography with lighting practice. In the first week, students will design the lighting style and work on screen tests for focus exposure, lens perspective, film latitude, slow/fast motions, contrast and lighting. From the second week, they will apply the knowledge acquired to actual production in order to make the final digital film project.

This is a hands-on production design workshop in which students learn fundamental skills in drawing for characters and sets for story telling. Element of design employed by art directors will be covered and demonstrated through illustration of past works in cinemas. In the first week, elements of imaging making - make up, hair, accessories and props will be covered. In the second week, emphasis will be on set and interior design. Students should grasp the overall concept of art direction and apply it to their final digital film project .

Sound |

This specialization explores the use of sound design in film production. It provides a solid foundation from sound effect (foley and audio sampling) to music composition (choice and placement). It will also investigate different sound formats from single double track to surround sound production for film (5.1 and beyond).
