Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Creative Media (BScCM)
創意媒體榮譽理學士

What is BScCM?

This programme produces professionals in creative media who are proficient in computing technology. students also gain a solid foundation in the creative process, including video, sound, photography, storytelling, game design, animation, computer graphics, installation, and interactive digital media production.

Graduates should be able to exploit the latest computing and media technologies in the creation of various media including computer games, computer animation, interactivity, installation, special effects, internet applications and mobile devices and services.

This programme combines the core courses from both the School of Creative Media and the Department of Computer Science to produce graduates who are able to bridge the gap between the technical and artistic side of the media field.

Programme Curriculum

This programme combines core courses from the BA in Creative Media and the BSc in Computer Science, providing you with a solid background in both areas. Students of this programme will have the opportunity to interact with students from both the School of Creative Media and the Department of Computer Science to develop teamwork skills and a thorough understanding of both fields.

Computer Science courses include: computer organization, programming, problem solving, software engineering, computer graphics, and computer networks. The courses will equip students with a solid background in computer science and programming, enabling them to develop software for the media industry.

Creative Media courses include: studio disciplines, such as video, sound, creative writing, computer animation, computer games, interactivity, installation and internet-based media. These courses give students a good understanding of the creative process and the ability to produce content for digital media projects. Through courses and final-year projects, students will have ample opportunities to practise both technical and creative skills, work in teams, and develop interesting digital media projects.

Bonus Features

The School has exchange agreements with universities in the Mainland, other parts of Asia and North America, giving students the opportunity to spend a semester at another university and explore different cultures. The curriculum includes a summer internship course where students can work for a summer in a media company. Students are encouraged to submit their artwork to media festivals and competitions and have been very successful in these competitions. Students also have access to the extensive software facilities at the laboratories of the Department of Computer Science. Special Interest Group (SIG) is an extra-curricular programme managed by dedicated students with supervision by faculty advisors, which provides excellent opportunities for them to immerse in both artistic and scientific aspects of digital media creation. In SIG, students initiate projects out of their own interest and passion. Their projects range from innovative computer games, interactive installations to applied artworks using different digital-electronic technologies.

  • SIGG: Game
  • SIGGD: Graphics and Design
  • SIGInXT: Installation and Interaction

Career Prospects

This programme is ideal for students who have a strong technical background, but are also interested in creative media. Graduates are qualified to work in a wide range of digital media fields including computer games, computer animation, interactivity, installation, special effects and internet-based media. Graduates will be part of the creative teams which contribute to both the technical and creative sides of media projects. With their solid technical and creative background, graduates will be ideal professionals for management positions in the future.

Portfolio Submission

Applicants may be required to attend an interview to gauge their technical and creative potential. If applicants are invited for an interview, they are highly recommended to present their portfolio during the interview session to facilitate the assessment of the application. Portfolio materials may include art works or technical projects (web pages, programming projects, or other media related projects).
