Academic Qualifications:

PhD Comparative Literature - Film Studies, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada

BA English (Science Oriented Major), Xidian University, Xian, China

Background:

Louisa was born in a family with language professors, who can handle ten languages in total. Every member of the family can write and half keep their own blogs. Starting to read classic literature from elementary school, she has a love for stories more than anything else and a determined to learn the art of storytelling from a young age. In 1992, she went to Canada and completed her master and doctorate degrees in Comparative Literature and Film Studies.

Before moving to Hong Kong towards the end of 2001, Louisa worked as a research associate in an international university in Japan. After coming to Hong Kong, she began to take part in film productions. She has co-written three feature film screenplays including Susie Au's Ming Ming (starring Zhou Xun and Daniel Wu) which is selected for Pusan International Film Festival. In February 2006, her first music documentary Cui Jian: Rocking China was aired in Channel 13 or Cable TV Hong Kong. In July, 2006, she completed her first documentary feature A Piece of Heaven: Primary Documents.

Louisa has taught courses about storytelling, Chinese cinema, documentary production and gender studies. In the past three years, student works in the forms of writing, documentary, narrative video and animation that Louisa supervised have won lots of local and international awards. She loves working with students on their projects and is one of the most popular graduation project advisors in the school.

Louisa's research interests also include narrative pedagogy, Chinese documentary, Chinese cinema, and woman directors of China and Japan.
