Wan Shun-chuen read philosophy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and then the University of Hong Kong. Before that, he was introduced to philosophical reflections at New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies. Since then, Chinese philosophy has remained one of his favourite subjects although his research interests have broadened to include western philosophy as well. He joined the department in August 2007.
