9th PhD Student Workshop 2015 cum 10th Anniversary of USTC-CityU PhD Students Collaboration Scheme (SUZHOU)

In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the USTC-CityU Joint PhD collaboration scheme and in order to encourage academic and student exchange, SGS is pleased to announce that the 9th PhD Student Workshop 2015 cum 10th Anniversary of USTC-CityU PhD Students Collaboration Scheme will be organized at USTC-CityU Joint Advanced Research Centre (Suzhou), China on 6-7 June 2015 for Hong Kong and Mainland students of project teams under the Mainland Collaboration Schemes to meet and discuss their research findings and the latest advancements in their own discipline. This annual Workshop also aims to advance the participants’ understanding of important issues and frontier research in their own research area.

In conjunction with the Workshop, an award presentation ceremony for “Peter Ho Conference Scholarships” will be held on 6-7 June 2015. The aim of the scholarship is to recognize and reward PhD students with outstanding academic performance. Students will be subsidised to participate in an academic conference in order to help widen their academic exposure and strengthen their research writing and presentation skills.

8th PhD Student Workshop 2014 (Hefei) [第八届博士生学术论坛]

To encourage academic and student exchange, SGS is pleased to announce that the 8th PhD Student Workshop 2014 will be organized at University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei from 31 March - 1 April 2014 for all project teams under the Mainland Collaboration Schemes with USTC, Tsinghua, Peking, Wuhan, Zhongshan Universities and Xian Jiaotong University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. PhD students admitted under the Mainland Collaboration Schemes are eligible to participate in this Workshop.

To encourage academic and student exchange, SGS is pleased to announce that the 6th PhD Student Workshop 2012 will be held in the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei from 10 to 11 April 2012 for all project teams under the Mainland Collaboration Schemes with USTC, Tsinghua, Peking, Wuhan, Zhengzhou or Zhongshan Universities or Huazhong University of Science and Technology. PhD students admitted under the Mainland Collaboration Schemes (currently stationed in Suzhou or Shenzhen) are eligible to participate in this Workshop.

CityU Run Run Shaw Library's Chinese Calligraphy's Webpage and Quiz

In line with the University's pursuit of whole person development education, CityU's Run Run Shaw Library has strived to develop projects to promote humanities and arts outside classroom in recent years. In this semester, CityU have proudly received the support of Dr Sze Chi-ching to initiate and promote students' understanding of and interest in Chinese calligraphy. Learning activities such as workshops, exhibitions, thematic lecture, multi-media display, and learning assessment, etc. are organized. To promote Chinese calligraphy to the students in the Suzhou campus, you are invited to visit the Library's thematic webpage and to take part in the Learning Assessment (Quiz) of the event:

Notice about Financial Support for Thesis Editing

To:Students under the Joint PhD Programme with USTC (2007 cohort + 2006 cohort not yet graduated)

Details of the financial support for thesis editing are listed below:

 

  1. Eligibility
    All PhD students under the USTC-CityU Collaboration Scheme who are at the final stage of their thesis writing are eligible to apply for the financial support. (Applications from students who have received this financial support from SGS before for the same PhD thesis will not normally be considered.)

  2. Amount
    The maximum value is HK$3,000 per PhD thesis.

  3. Period of Thesis Editing
    Students shall be responsible for seeking suitable service providers, who are stationed in Hong Kong or overseas, to edit their theses. The thesis editing period is from now to 30 June 2011

  4. Reimbursement of Thesis Editing Fee
    Student should fill in the attached form and send together with the original invoice & receipt and a photocopy of the bank passbook to SGS or to the General Office of the USTC-CityU Joint Advanced Research Centre (Suzhou) by 30 June 2011. Reimbursement will be made on actual cost incurred (up to a maximum of HK$3,000) upon the submission of documents to SGS. For your information, the list of project team leaders is as follows:

    b)    Departments/Colleges may provide top-up non-UGC funding, if necessary, for their students if the amount of funding support (i.e. HK$3,000 per thesis) cannot fully cover the thesis editing fee.
    c)    Students shall be reminded to conform to the Code of Practices for Research (posted on http://www.cityu.edu.hk/ro/studentlan/codeofpractice.html).

To encourage academic and student exchange, SGS is pleased to announce that the 5th PhD Student Workshop 2011 will be held in the CityU Suzhou Research Centre from 18 to 19 April 2011, you are encouraged to attend the Workshop and various activities if you are conducting research under one of the following eight key areas:

  3. Control and Mechatronics
  4. Fire Safety and Nanomechanics
  5. Web Services
  6. Environmental Science
  7. Information Engineering
  8. Computational and Theoretical Materials Physics

Students who are interested in this event, please fill in the attached registration form and submit it to SGS before 26 Feb 2011. Students from Hong Kong can obtain sponsorship via application of Conference Grant before the Workshop and the grant awarded will NOT be counted towards the quota of Conference Grant during the course of their candidature.

 

For students under the Mainland Collaboration Schemes with USTC, Tsinghua, Peking, Wuhan, Zhengzhou and Zhongshan Universities, funding support for an economy-class return air ticket to travel between Shenzhen/Hong Kong and Suzhou or a round-trip travel by train from Hefei to Suzhou will be provided.

  1. You can start to view your course grades and academic standing from 5 January 2011. From AIMS, select “Student Record” Menu and then “Grade Detail/Academic Standing Report”.
  2. If you find that “In Progress” is still marked against any course(s) in your record, this means that grades for those courses have not yet been submitted by the Assessment Panel. 
  3. If you find that your academic standing is “Review”, this means that your programme department is considering your performance and the decision on your academic standing will be available later.
