Sumitomo Foundation Research Grant

The Sumitomo Foundation is a non-profit grant-making organization established in 1991 in purpose of contributing to the betterment of human society. In order to promote the mutual understanding between Japan and other Asian countries, the Sumitomo Foundation invites applications for the Grant for Japan-related Research Projects.

The grant supports individual and collaborative Japan-related projects of one year duration in the field of social sciences or humanities. The maximum grant amount for each project is JPY2 million (~HK$142,000). Applicants must be of Asian nationality (non-Japanese) living outside Japan.

Submission of Application:

Internal deadline: 16 October 2017
University's endorsement is required for each application.  Please submit one set of application materials and the Institutional Endorsement Form via Head and Dean/Line Management of Department to RO ( email: ) for arrangement of Institutional endorsement.

External deadline: 31 October 2017
Please submit your application together with a letter of recommendation directly to the Sumitomo Foundation by Courier or Registered Airmail.
