Workshop on Industrial Applications

City University of Hong Kong

December 4 - 8, 2006

  Aim of the Workshop

City University of Hong Kong is organizing the second Workshop on Industrial Applications in Hong Kong from December 4-8, 2006.

The industrial applications workshop was initiated by Professor Leslie Fox and Professor Alan Tayler in Oxford, UK. Since the death of these two founders, it has been led by Dr. John Ockendon, also from Oxford.  The idea has been adopted in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and China.  Over the years, the workshop has become very successful in solving industrial problems around the world.

This workshop aims to stimulate collaboration between industry representatives and applied mathematicians.  Industry representatives will present problems on the first day of the workshop followed by small group discussion on the next three days.  The results will then be presented on the final day.

This event will provide a unique opportunity for applied mathematicians to be exposed to industrial problems.  It will also help to establish link between industry and university, and in particular to encourage the greater use of mathematical modeling and analysis in industry.
