First Pacific Rim Conference on Mathematics
January 19 - 23, 1998

Undoubtedly one of the key events in 1998 was the First Pacific Rim Conference on Mathematics held in Hong Kong from January 19 - 23. Jointly organized by Canada, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the conference was attended by a number of internationally renowned scientists. These included three Fields Medallists, A Turing Medallist, and three recipients of the US National Medal of Science. As a result of the overwhelming response to this conference the Second Pacific Rim Conference on Mathematics, to be held in 2001, will be organized by six countries: Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and the United States.

The Centre has attracted many distinguished scientists who have visited for an extended period (one month or longer) and engaged in research collaboration with the Centre's members.
