Purpose
The Symposium will be held on the campus of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) Equine Hospital. The University is located at Kowloon Tong, which is a major traffic hub from which one can travel to other parts of the Kowloon Peninsula, Hong Kong Island and the New Territories by Mass Transit Railway (MTR). Transportation between CityU and HKJC Equine Hospital will be provided.
Format
The symposium will focus on practical management of horses affected with poor performance associated with upper airway disease. The program will be delivered by a team of veterinary surgeons including Drs. Chris Riggs and Greg Sommerville from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Paddy Dixon (Royal (Dick) school of Veterinary Studies – University of Edinburg), Jonathan Cheetham (Cornell University) and Norm Ducharme (Cornell University). In addition, staff veterinary surgeons of the HKJC will assist with the demonstrations. The course will be based on morning lectures reviewing state of the art upper airway physiology, and pathophysiology knowledge with appropriate reference to anatomical and biological data. The afternoon will consist of laboratories, where demonstrations and surgical labs will allow participants to refine their skills and learn surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic tips from the speakers.
- Day One (11 January 2012, Wednesday) - emphasis on upper airway physiology and diagnosis
- Day Two (12 January 2012, Thursday) - emphasis on upper Sinus, guttural pouches and nasopharyngeal obstruction
- Day Three (13 January 2012, Friday) - emphasis on laryngeal obstruction
