Discovery&Innovation on the Mainland in Summer and beyond (DIMSum)
2017-18 Call for Proposals (Round 2) from
CityU Staff (Scheme A) & CityU Student Societies (Scheme B)

Objectives

DIMSum is one of the initiatives of the Discovery-enriched Curriculum (DEC) at City University of Hong Kong and is funded by the Education Bureau's Pilot Mainland Experience Scheme (PMES) to encourage and facilitate students’ discovery, innovation and internationalisation experiences through their visits to mainland China. DIMSum aims to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of the social, economic and cultural landscape of mainland China by offering funding, advice and other resources.

Call for Proposals

Both CityU full-time staff (Scheme A) and CityU student societies (Scheme B) are invited to design and propose projects to be carried out by students through travelling to and visiting mainland China.

CityU Staff (Scheme A): The staff-proposed projects could be carried out with and/or by their students of Gateway Education (GE), disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses, final-year projects, special topic courses or co-curricular activities.

CityU Student Societies (including Residents' Associations) (Scheme B): For the student society-proposed projects, like all events organised by the University for students, a full-time staff must be identified to oversee the whole activity. Information of the staff must be included in the proposal.

Eligibility of DIMSum Project Student Participants

All full-time undergraduate students at CityU participating in the DIMSum projects are eligible for DIMSum funding support1.

DIMSum Funds

Each student participating in the project will be subsidised up to HK$3,000 or 50% of the total cost per person (whichever is lower) in the form of reimbursement through the Pilot Mainland Experience Scheme (PMES) to carry out the project. The funds can be used to cover direct expenses for travel, accommodation, and meals, etc. Proposals with larger financial needs may be considered. Costs incurred for accompanying staff member(s) should be covered by other sources of funding.

Reimbursement Conditions

The funding support is on individual basis and will be in the form of reimbursement upon successful completion of the project, submission of reimbursement forms with complete information and proof expenses, submission of project report, and compliance to rules and regulations.
