Public Management

Public management education and research examines how management practices and organizational arrangements can be more effectively configured to enhance public service performance and public value. Faculty deal with cutting edge management issues including corruption, leadership, management reforms, the financing of public agencies, human resource management and public service performance.

Faculty employ cutting edge research methodologies to tease out important research findings on these topics. Methods include laboratory, field and survey experimental methods, bibliometric analytical tools and topic modelling.

Our work is comparative examining questions of public management internationally in the Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America and between public, nonprofit and private organizations and over time. This comparative outlook reflects.

Through the Laboratory for Public Management and Policy (LaMP) public management scholars work with policy researchers to bring together questions of management and policy.

The work of our faculty has been recognized in many ways. Most recently public management education and research has been placed 1st in Hong Kong, 1st in Asia and 16th in the world by Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2018 in Public Administration.
