Course Aims

This course seeks to ground students in the core theoretical paradigms, concepts, debates, and questions in the study of International Relations. There will be an emphasis on comparing and contrasting the various theoretical paradigms (Liberalism, Realism, Constructivism, Post-Modernism, Historical Materialism, and Feminism), and critically analyzing their divergent worldviews and perspectives on the big questions of power and change. In the assessment there will be an emphasis on relating the study of International Relations directly to contemporary events and our daily lives, and indeed our future. Thus, this course aims to instil a daily habit of critical analysis and self-reflection through weekly assessments (think pieces, class discussion, and presentations), as well as to form opinions on various issues in international studies and to be able to express them in both writing and public speaking and debate.
