Course Aims

This course aims to enable students to:
  • Understand essential theoretical concepts in sociolinguistics.
  • Apply these concepts to the analysis and discussion of language and society.
  • Understand various sociolinguistic methodologies.
  • Evaluate language issues in the Hong Kong context from a sociolinguistic perspective.

Participation and contribution to in-class discussions and activities: 20%
Group work presentations: 30%
Written assignment: 50%
