Dr. Ma is an associate professor in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management (MEEM), City University of Hong Kong (CityU), lecturing in the area of geometric design, CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping technologies. Before joining the Department in 1995, he worked as a research fellow at Materialise N.V., a rapid prototyping firm in Belgium, where he developed software modules on medical CAD modelling from CT-data. He also worked as a research fellow in the Division of Production Engineering, Machine Design and Automation, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) on CAD/CAM, reverse engineering, dimensional metrology and dimensional inspection. He also worked in the Department of Space Vehicle Engineering of East China Institute of Technology (China), now Nanjing University of Science and Technology (China), on dynamic measurements, mechanical vibration and design optimization. Dr. Ma is coauthor of over 120 technical publications, including 1 book, 8 book chapters / articles in edited books, over 50 refereed journal publications, and over 60 articles in conference proceedings. His present research interests include computer aided geometric design, CAD/CAM, virtual reality for product design, reverse engineering, and rapid prototyping technologies.
