IntraMEL is a unique WWW On-line Information System of MEEM laboratories developed in housed in 1994. It provides numerous on-line information including laboratory schedule, availability of technical staff and their technical advices, latest copies of laboratory handouts for students, etc. In addition, both internal and external users can receive up-to-date information about the laboratories from IntraMEL, such as laboratory guide, electronic forms, equipment installed, list of previous final year projects and parts catalogues for procurement and so forth.
Through out the year, IntraMEL has been continuously upgraded and is now in its latest 3rd version, incorporating the latest IT techniques. Users will find IntraMEL an invaluable platform for their work during their study in MEEM Department.
Access the logon page of IntraMEL: https://www.meem.cityu.edu.hk/webapps/index.asp.
The development work of the IntraMEL can be differentiated into four major scopes, which correspond to the five major functionalities supported in the system: -
Labsheet searching, browsing and download. For students to view and download the labsheets related to the modules they are undertaking, a flexible way of laboratory sheet (labsheet) searching is provided by the system. For the convenience of students to search the required labsheets, course schedules and the labsheets used by those courses in every week are recorded and presented in form of timetable. Students may view the content of the labsheet through the browser.
Technical staff information and timetable. This function is primarily for students to (1) know who is responsible for the experiments that they will undertake and (2) check the specialties and availability of the technical staff whom they want to discuss with. As the system is not used for administrative purpose, technical staff scheduling issues other than regular experiment support are not recorded.
Laboratory Weekday Evening and Saturday Opening Schedule. FYP students will find this function very useful because they can know exactly which lab will be open in the evening to support their FYP works. Part time students can also book in advance for individual laboratory and technician to support their works in evening or Saturday afternoon.
A mini-library system maintaining student project reports and purchased parts catalogues. The mini-library system actually maintains two disparate functions and data. The student project report searching and reservation function allow students to search the project reports of past years that they are interested in or relevant to their study. On-line booking of these reports is available through the reservation function. In the meantime, the MEL has installed a min-library system for maintaining purchased parts catalogues. All these catalogues are systematically classified and placed in a common area accessible by all MEEM students and staff. The web therefore also provides an add-on function for students to search or browse the catalogues available. Since these catalogues are open for students and staff to use, reservation in advance is not necessary.
User Guides and Videos. IntraMEL also includes the latest administrative guide (and forms) for students use. It includes consumable control system user guide, FYP support guide, safety videos, so forth. Students will find these functions very useful when they require services from MEEM Laboratory.
