What is Systems Engineering?

"Systems engineering is the management technology that controls a total system lifecycle process, which involves and which results in the definition, development and deployment of a system that is of high quality, trustworthy, and cost-effective in meeting user needs."

- Andrew P. Sage

Aims of the Programme

Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE) is a challenging and dynamic discipline and the MSE programme is established to fulfill the needs of engineers for knowledge-intensive and globalized manufacturing and engineering enterprises. This programme emphasizes the learning of knowledge-based manufacturing technologies, information technologies, management and systems.

It is expected that graduates of this programme will be equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills to meet the requirements of manufacturing and engineering enterprises.

To meet the needs of engineers in engineering-related enterprises, our graduates can

  1. develop and manage system-level procedures governing the productivity and quality maintenance/improvement activities in any engineering-related industry;
  2. develop and manage 'process engineering' and 'design for manufacture' activities in discrete products manufacturing industries; and
  3. contribute significantly towards the modernization and computerization of manufacturing facilities and systems.

The programme will also provide students with opportunities to develop their creative, organizational and applicational skills in the context of manufacturing systems engineering.

Careers in Manufacturing Systems Engineering

By virtue of their education and training, graduates of the Manufacturing Systems Engineering programme can handle a wide range of job functions in manufacturing or servicing sector. Many are ready to take up managerial positions in a few years after graduation. Typical job nature normally held by the graduates includes :-
