2007
  • In October/November, Dr. CHIN K.S. is elected a Fellow of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). The Society has more than 100,000 individual and organizational members worldwide and only 600 of them are fellows. Currently, there are just two fellows in the Greater China region, and Dr. Chin has now become the third one.
  • A paper entitled "H_infinity Output Feedback Control of Discrete-Time Fuzzy Systems with Application to Chaos Control", co-authored by Dr. CHEN Cailian, Professor Gary FENG, Dr. SUN Dong and Professor GUAN Xinping, was awarded the 2005 IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems Outstanding paper Award (bestowed in 2007). This prestigious award is given out annually by IEEE Society of Computational Intelligence to one paper published in IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems in a particular year. Dr. CHEN Cailian received her PhD from MEEM Department. She is now doing her post-doctorate at Manchester University, UK.
2006
  • In November, the website of the MEEM Department has been rated "excellent" in the Web Care Award 2006 by iProA, for achieving a high level of web accessibility.
  • In October, DynaCity Technology, a dynamic young company under CityU Enterprises, which is formed by Dr. Dong Sun, has been honoured with major awards, including the overall top prize, at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair 2006.
  • In August, Mr. Justin Chan Yiu-ting, a final-year MEEM student, takes home the top prize in the university category and the final championship at the "Technology, Environmental Protection and Innovation Competition".
  • In May, Dr. Hongyi SUN becomes one of the four recipients of CityU's Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2005/06.
  • In February, MPhil graduate Miss Yu Hoi-kuen win the best project award 2004-05 for her project "Development of Accident Costs Estimation Model for Hong Kong Catering Industry", organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Council.
  • According to CityU's graduate employment survey in 2005, the average monthly income of our BEMTE, BEIEEM and BEMISE graduates are ranked the 1st, 2nd and 5th highest respectively among the graduates of the 18 programmes of FSE, and are higher than the overall average of FSE and City.
2005
  • In October, MEEM homepage is honoured with the Web Care Award (Silver Prize) by Internet Professional Association (iProA).
  • In April, Dr. Ricky W.H. Yeung is elected a Council Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), representing the MIE Division.
  • Dr. Alexandar Djordjevich is honoured by the Laser Focus World for establishing the technology of deflection-curvature measurement.
  • Miss Tang Yuen Wa Natalie, a graduate of MEEM, is one of the five winners of the Alexandre Yersin Excellence Scholarship awarded by the Consulate General of France. She is leaving in September for France to study industrial design at Universitie de Technologie de Compeigne.
  • The four students, Mr. But Tsz Ho, Mr. Chan Tat Wai, Mr. Ho Wing Hei and Mr. Ng Man Chun, win the Siemens (Automation and Drives Division) Student Project Award for their innovative use of Siemens' RFID equipment in the development of a mobile robotic navigation system.
2004
  • In June, Miss Joy Lam, a MPhil student of Dr. Edmund H.M. Cheung, is ranked among the top three finalists in a writing contest organized by the Greater China CRM Research Institute in China.
  • Mr. Ma Chak Lam receives the IEE Manufacturing Engineering Student Prize 2004 for the second time.
  • In May, MEEM homepage is honoured with the Web Care Award by Internet Professional Association (iProA).
  • In January, Dr. Ricky W.H. Yeung is elected the Founding Council President of the Six Sigma Society of Hong Kong.
2003
  • Professor Patri K. V. and Dr. Weiyin Ma publish a new book called "Rapid Prototyping - Laser-based and Other Technologies".
  • Dr. Dong Sun receives the 2003 Hong Kong Award for Industry (category of Machinery and Equipment Design) for his project on integrated and digitalized motor controller and driver product.
  • In December, Dr. Ricky W.H. Yeung is awarded with the certified Six Sigma Black Belt qualification by the International Academy for Quality Certifications (IAQC). Dr. Yeung also writes a chapter for a new book called "Fieldbus Technology: Industrial Network Standards for real-time distributed control", published by Springer and edited by Prof. N.P. Mahalik.
  • In June, Mr. Steward Yeung, a BEMTE graduate of MEEM Department, represents Hong Kong in the 37th WorldSkills Competition held in Switzerland and achieves the status of "Excellent".
  • In June, the team in CIDAM led by Prof. S.K. Tso receives the Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health award for an innovative climbing robot for high-safety wall-tile maintenance.
  • The final year project of Miss Elaine Y.L. Chong and Mr. Alex H.W. Chan, students of BEME, win the Merit Awards in the Business Facilities Safety Design Competition for Small & Medium sized Enterprises which is organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Council. The project is supervised by Dr. Alan Chan.
  • In February, a paper on "Perception Planning for Model-based Robot Vision" written by Mr. Chen Shengyong, a PhD student supervised by Dr. Li Y.F., wins the 1st prize in the Postgraduate section of IEEE Region 10 Student Paper Contest. Region 10 covers areas from India in the west to New Zealand in the east, and from Korea, Japan & China in the north to Australia in the south.
2002
  • In October, three innovative Cleanbots designed by the Consortium for Intelligent Automation and Mechatronics (CIDAM) of MEEM Department has won the CMA Machinery and Equipment Design 2002 Hong Kong Awards for Industry Competition.
  • Professor Y.W. Mai is elected an Honorary Fellow of the International Congress of Fracture, and becomes President of International Congress of Fracture for 2002-2005. He is also appointed as a Guest Professor of Department of Industrial Engineering as well as Department of Engineering Mechanics of Tsinghua University, and appointed as an Adjunct Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
  • Prof. K.V. Patri , the founding HoD, is conferred the title of Emeritus Professor after his retirement. This is the first Emeritus Professor in CityU.
  • In July, Dr. Ricky W.H. Yeung accepts invitation to become an Honorary Advisor of WelcomeSoft Co. Ltd.
  • Mr. Steward Yeung, a student of MEEM Department, is awarded a Champion in the Hong Kong Youth Skill Competition organized by the Vocational Training Council (VTC).
2001
  • Dr. Ricky W.H. Yeung is elected an Expert Member (Management Information System) of Industrial Engineering by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.
  • In December, Professor Y.C. Gao , a Visiting Professor, is elected a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
  • In September, Professor Y.W. Mai is elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and is also awarded an Australian Federation Fellowship by the Australian Research Council.
2000
  • Dr. Alexander Djordjevich is selected as one of the best teachers of the University and given the Teaching Excellence Award for the year 2000/2001.
  • Professor Y.W. Mai receives an AFG Achievement Award from Australian Fracture Group Inc.
  • In May, Dr. Ricky W.H. Yeung accepts invitation to become an Honorary Technical Advisor of Team Concepts Electronics Ltd. for 3 years. He is also elected as the President of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (HK) in April.
1998
  • Institution of Engineering Managers (Hong Kong), which is established by the graduates of the Department's MScEM programme, becomes a cooperating society of the American Society of Engineering Management (ASEM).
  • Dr. K.B. Chuah is appointed to represent the Institution of Engineering Managers (Hong Kong) on the editorial board of Engineering Management Journal (EMJ), which is published monthly by ASEM.
  • Dr. Richard C.M. Yam is appointed to represent the Institution of Engineering Managers (Hong Kong) as the cooperating society editor for the Engineering Management Journal (EMJ).
  • Prof. K.V. Patri is appointed a Chair Professor at Shandong University of Technology, Jinan, P.R. China.
  • Dr. Edmund H.M. Cheung and Dr. Meng Hua are appointed by Northwestern Polytechnic University, Xian, P.R. China as Guest Professor and Associate Guest Professor respectively.
  • Dr. Rao Kamineni's paper is adjudicated as the "Best Technical Paper" in the 4th International Conference on Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies (AMPT'98).
1997
  • Prof. K.V. Patri is elected a CIRP Active Member.
1996
  • Prof. S.K. Tso is appointed an Honorary Professor at the University of Hong Kong and a Consulting Professor at South China University of Technology from 1996 to present.
  • Dr. Peter Tse's paper is given the Mansour Best Paper Award at the World Automation Congress in 1996.
1995
  • Dr. Edmund H.M. Cheung is invited to become the Honorary Consultant to The Hong Kong Metals Manufacturers Association from 1995 onwards.
