President, Honoured Guests, Professors, Fellow Graduates, Ladies and Gentlemen:

It is my great honour and pleasure to be here today to address the congregation on behalf of my fellow graduates. To be honest, I was very timid during the early stages of my career at CityU and I lacked the courage to speak up, let alone deliver a speech of thanks to our professors and parents. I thank CityU for changing me so much.

What is your CityU story? Let me share mine with you. This is a tale about a timid duckling that became a brave swan. Dependent, doubtful, narrow-minded and apprehensive - these would be the most appropriate adjectives to describe me in my first year of studies. But now, the opposite meanings of these adjectives apply.

What was the turning point? The second year of my studies, With the help of my parent department, I went on a student exchange programme to Austria for one academic year, a major challenge and a fabulous experience in many ways. The programme enabled me to study and live abroad on my own, explore more than ten European countries, work as a bar tender in Austria and a baby sitter in Finland, push my panic aside and make friends with people from all over the world. Who could imagine that such a timid duckling would gain so many unforgettable learning experience in so many fascinating places?

It was an exhausting but enjoyable learning journey in Austria, and I learnt a lot. The significant development of my personality and the three academic awards I won last year - the Outstanding Student Award, Best Industrial and Application Award and the Student of the Year - are the best proof. However, what I am most proud of is the confidence and passion I gained. I sincerely thank the President of our University for his provident leadership that has internationalized CityU.

I would also like to thank our professors for their guidance and willingness to present us with interesting opportunities; our parents, our strongest sources of support, motivation and happiness. For me, I would like to dedicate all my success to my parents. Without your support, this brave swan could not be here today. And last but not least, CityU, for lighting up our lives, enabling us to realize how big the world is and escorting us to the next stage of life.

Thank you very much.
