The programme has been developed to meet the educational needs of technical specialists as well as professional engineering managers. Graduates will have an integrated knowledge of both technology and management skills necessary for cutting edge enterprises.

Programme Aims and Objectives

The evolution of the technology and the rapid expansion of global economics have generated growing needs for professionals who understand the-state-of-the-art technology and possess the entrepreneurial management for a business success. There is an increasing demand in Hong Kong, Mainland & industrialized countries for those professionals. They are entrepreneurs and creators of tomorrow. The Master of Science in Advanced Technology and Management (MSATM) Programme aims to satisfy this need, by offering a world-class quality, in-depth education opportunity that covers the integration of advanced technologies and the enterprise management.

The programme focuses on the following major areas and a special stream:

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs):

  1. apply state-of-the-art technologies to generate creative ethical solutions in setting up business goals and strategies that turn a dream into a business success;
  2. apply an extensive knowledge of planning, evaluating, designing and implementing advanced technologies in an integrated environment meeting the business goals and strategies;
  3. apply analytical skills of multidisciplinary, multi-variable engineering and engineering management to generate new ideals for the integration of technology and management; and
  4. apply effective interdisciplinary communication skills of team work, documentation and Internet/web-based methods to develop a system that reflects increasingly customer-oriented, globally competitive and dynamically changing world markets.

Unique Features:

  • Students can bring problems from work to class for team discussion and further analysis, and earn course credits upon obtaining satisfactory results.
  • The programme utilises a variety of learning modes and methods, including the following:
    • Lectures and Tutorials
    • Co-operative Learning
    • Seminars, Interactive Workshops and Panel Discussions offered by external as well as by international experts, and active professionals working in industry
    • Residential Workshop

Students may obtain the MSc degree either by completing:

  • 5 core courses + 5 elective taught courses, or
  • 5 core courses + the dissertation + 2 elective courses

Path of study for the student purses his/her major areas including:

  • A special stream of Nuclear and Risk Engineering

Local:HK$3,010 per credit (2014/2015)
Non-local:HK$4,030 per credit (2014/2015)

Entrance Requirements

Applicants must

  • Hold a degree in engineering, science, or equivalent, or
  • Be a graduate member, or a non-member but qualified for graduate membership of a professional institution, or
  • Other degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis by a committee of experts.

English Proficiency Requirement

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement:

  • TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test); or
  • Overall band score 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  • Score 450 in the College English Test (CET-6); or
  • Other equivalent qualifications
