The AABCS programme was first launched in 2002 aiming at enhancing students’ language proficiency and communication skills in different languages. It offers different options of languages and allows flexibility to cater the needs of students. There are altogether seven options in the programme:
English and Chinese
Japanese and Chinese
Japanese and English
Korean and Chinese
Korean and English
French and English
Spanish and English
All students have to take 60 credits for graduation. Out of the 60 credits, 34 are the foreign languages, 5 are Putonghua courses, and at least 6 are English courses. The curriculum allows students to have more exposure to the foreign languages, and at the same time strengthens students’ proficiency in English and Putonghua.
Among graduates from the different options, over 60 percent have continued their studies. The majority of students have joined programmes offered by local universities (such as CityU, HKU, Baptist U, PolyU and Lingnan U). Some graduates have chosen to go overseas (such as UK, France, Japan and Korea) to further their studies.
For those who took up employment after graduation, most of them were able to find jobs of their own choices. The types of jobs graduates have taken up include flight attendant and cabin crew, marketing executive, project coordinator, trainee manager, sales associate, shipping clerk, teaching assistant, assistant editor, librarian assistant, clerical support staff and museum assistant.
We are proud to say that the AABCS programme has a strong and committed teaching force. Most of the lecturers are full-time staff from the Chinese, English, Japanese, French, Korean and translation streams of the Language Division. All staff has strong academic qualifications and experience. We are concerned about the learning of the students and we care for the whole development of students.
We are also proud of our students who have taken active parts in and out of classroom activities, both in Hong Kong and overseas. Students have taken parts in Overseas Attachment Schemes, study tours, workshops, seminars, competitions, etc. Every year, we have quite a number of students being awarded scholarships and prizes (internal and external). We are glad that students have enjoyed their two years with us, and have made the most out of it.
