Associate of Arts in Bilingual Communication Studies
(French and English)

Mode of Study: Two-year Full-time

PROGRAMME AIMS
This programme aims to provide a solid foundation in French, French culture, French for professional purposes and English and to prepare students for work in a bilingual environment and/or further study in relevant language and communication areas.

CAREER PROSPECTS
Graduates can take up employment that requires proficiency in French and English Graduates of this program will have a good command of both these languages (in addition to their knowledge of Cantonese and Putonghua), enabling them to pursue careers in customer services, marketing, media, publishing, purchasing, journalism, public relations, tourism, and other areas, both locally and regionally, in the private sector or with non-profit making organizations.

ARTICULATION/ FURTHER STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates can also continue their studies, with advanced standing, in relevant degree programs in applied languages and communication either locally or overseas. IMPORTANT POINT: Tuition fees in France are much lower than in other countries.



MAIN SUBJECT AREAS
  • French Communication Skills:a core theme that focuses on developing students’ practical skills in spoken and written French, and cultural understanding, with an emphasis on French in a professional and business context. This component includes a bilingual project.
  • English Communication Skills: a core theme that focuses on fundamentals of communication, English language activation and enrichment, English business communication and professional image building. This component also includes an introduction to desktop publishing.
  • A consolidation of students' knowledge of Putonghua: to meet professional communicative needs in the Hong Kong / PRC context.
 
PROGRAMME ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy one of the following:
  • E in 1 HKALE or E in 2 HKALE AS subjects plus E in 5 HKCEE subjects; or
  • Have a recognized diploma in relevant disciplines
