Copyright Information
The Run Run Shaw Library of
the City University of Hong Kong reserves the right not to accept a copying
order if, in its judgement, fulfilment of the order would involve violation
of copyright law.
Upon the submission of a copying
request, the user has to declare the following:
- The photocopy or reproduction
of the requested item will be used for the purposes of private study
or non-commercial scholarly research only.
- The user has not previously
been supplied with a copy of the same article or with copies of more
than one article contained in the same issue of the periodical or a
copy of more than a reasonable proportion of the work by any librarian.
- To the best of the user's
knowledge no other person with whom s/he works or studies has made or
intends to make, at or about the same time as this request, a request
for substantially the same material for substantially the same purpose.
- The user understands that
if s/he makes a false declaration for the requested item and s/he was
supplied with a copy of it which would have been an infringing copy
if made by herself or himself:
- The user is liable for infringement of copyright as if s/he had made
the copy herself or himself; and
- The copy is treated as an infringing copy.
- The user undertakes to
accept the full responsibility of this photocopying and indemnifies
the University any liability incurred in relation to this photocopying
should a dispute concerning copyright infringement arise.
The full text of the Copyright
Ordinance is available through the Bilingual Laws Information
System (BLIS). Users may also refer to the Intellectual
Property Laws of Hong Kong on the web page of the Intellectual Property
Department of the HKSAR Government. Staff in the Interlibrary Loan Services
Office will observe the copyright laws and return requests that appear
to violate them to the requesters.
Copyright Declaration Required by British Library
As a non-commercial organisation registered to use the British
Library (BL), our Library is currently accessing the BL's collection
through the Library Privilege Service. Under this service, BL supplies
us with single copies of documents for non-commercial use or private
study. Items supplied through this service do not attract a publication
specific copyright fee.
Our obligations when using the Library Privilege Service include:
- The user must sign an English
language declaration form, stating that
the document is to be used for a non-commercial research purpose
or for private study.
- The ordering library must collect and keep the signed
declaration forms for 6 years plus the current year, which BL will
audit as required.
