Welcome to Run Run Shaw Library!

The Library would like to extend a warm welcome to all City U students, especially to those first-year students. As you may have noticed, the Library is currently undergoing renovation, and we would like to apologize for the inconveniences caused. The Library will try to minimize the possible disturbances and ensure that most services will not be affected during the renovation.

Given that our freshmen may not be familiar with our renovation project, we find it necessary to restate its rationale and background. In anticipation that student numbers will significantly increase along with the new 4-year degree structure to be adopted in 2012, coupling with changes in technology, user behavior and teaching pedagogies, it is vital for the Library to implement an overall spatial re-planning to cope with its short-term and long-term needs.

Since the end of last year, the Library has employed a consultant to conduct in-depth research and study on our Library. We have also gathered valuable comments from the University community through various kinds of activities, such as forum, exhibition and survey, in February and March this year. From April onwards, the Library and the consultant have worked closely to consolidate the design concept and commenced the first phase of the construction in Summer 2007. Since it is a very large scale renovation, the construction works will have to be carried out beyond the summer break inevitably. The Library is trying its best to make sure the works can be completed by mid October. Your patience and support are very much appreciated.

Please refer to the renovation website http://www.cityu.edu.hk/lib/renovation/ for the time frame and the latest progress of the project.

To facilitate access to our information content during the interim, Library staff and student ambassadors easily identified by their name badges are always willing to help to show you the way and provide assistance. In addition, our Library is now offering some 55,000 electronic journals and 142,000 ebooks which are mostly recent acquisitions. Access to information content via the web becomes an efficient alternative.

Let's all look forward to the brand new learning environment!
