Library and Information Skills Programme Online (2008-2009)


Aim

Library and Information Skills Programme (LISP) Online aims to improve the ability of students to make effective use of the collections, services, electronic resources of the CityU Library; and to evaluate and use information appropriately and ethically in their study. Information skills are essential to their life-long learning.

The Programme

This interactive Programme, with 6 self-paced online learning modules, is to be accessed on Blackboard. The Programme starts on 21 August 2008 and will end on 31 July 2009.

Modules of the Programme:
  1. Library Orientation
  2. Introduction to Library Resources
  3. Using the Library Catalogue
  4. Using Databases, E-Journals, and E-Books
  5. Evaluating Information
  6. Citing Sources of Information

There are self-tests and a quiz in each module to reinforce the concepts learnt.

Certificate

Registered students who have taken all the six modules, completed all quizzes, and scored at least 80% for each quiz, and have opted for a certificate before working on the Programme modules, will be awarded an e-certificate by email according to the following schedule:

Registration and Access

Online registration is via AIMS. Registration period starts from 20 August 2008 and ends on 15 July 2009.

To register:

  1. Log in AIMS.
  2. Select Student Services tab.
  3. Select On-line Application for In-house Student Development Courses.
  4. Follow the instruction on screen to enroll for "Library and Information Skills Programme Online".

To access:

Access to LISP Online will be available 24 hours after your registration via AIMS:

  1. Log in CityU e-Portal.
  2. Select the My CityU tab.
  3. Under "My Developmental Course Organizations" in the "MY BLACKBOARD ORGANIZATIONS" box, select Library and Information Skills Programme Online.

Notes to Instructors and CityU Staff

We strongly encourage instructors to make this Programme a course requirement. You may ask your students to submit to you a copy of their e-certificates as their proof of participation. Other CityU staff are also welcome to take the Programme.

To try out or take the Programme, you need to register via AIMS:

  1. Log in AIMS.
  2. Select Staff Services.
  3. Select Staff Development.
  4. Select On-line Application for In-house Staff Development Courses.
  5. Follow the instruction on screen to enroll for "Library and Information Skills Programme Online".
  6. 24 hours after your registration, you will be able to access LISP Online on Blackboard. Just log in CityU e-Portal, select the My CityU tab, then select Library and Information Skills Programme Online under "My Developmental Course Organizations" in the "MY BLACKBOARD ORGANIZATIONS" box.

Guest Access

Users who do not have access to AIMS may use the guest account below:

  1. Go to e-Portal.
  2. Log in with username: b_libraryguest and password: public
  3. Select Library and Information Skills Programme Online in the "MY BLACKBOARD ORGANIZATIONS" box.

As this is a shared guest account, when you click a "Quiz" link in the Programme, you may find the following system message:

"Assessment already completed. Click OK to view results of last attempt
or take the assessment again."
To take the quiz, just select the link "take the assessment again".
